How to Delete Drafts on Instagram

Are you the type to hesitate on whether to post something on IG? Don’t worry; you’re not alone. Many of us store our Instagram Posts, Reels, and Stories in Draft form until we’re 100% sure it’s ready to go live on our profile. Keep reading to learn how to delete drafts on Instagram or IG.
You can save drafts for IG Reels, Posts, and Stories. If you want to delete a draft story, you’ll need to look in the Story section when creating a new post. Keep reading for a step-by-step tutorial explaining exactly where to find these options.
How to Delete Drafts on Instagram
To delete drafts on Instagram, navigate to Drafts when creating a new post, then tap the edit icon before selecting the drafts you want to delete.

How to Delete Instagram Posts and Reels Drafts
You delete drafts for Posts and Reels in the same section.
To delete IG Posts and Reel drafts:
- Tap the + icon to create a new post.
- Tap Drafts.
- Hit the Manage link.
- Tap the 🖊️ Pen icon in the top right of the screen.
- Select the Posts or Reels you want to delete. A blue checkmark will indicate posts are selected for deletion.
- Tap on the ✓ Check icon.
- Hit the Discard button.
To save a Post or Reel as a draft on Instagram, tap back when in the editing screen and tap Save as Draft.
How to Delete Instagram Story Drafts
Instagram Stories is the only type of post that has its own section for drafts.
To delete Instagram Story drafts:
- Hit the + icon to create a new post.
- Tap Story on the bottom.
- Tap the story Thumbnail on the left to go to your Story Drafts.
- Hit the Pages icon.
- Select the Stories you want to delete.
- Hit the Delete button.
- Tap Delete again.
Again, Story Drafts only last for 7 days, so if you don’t manually delete them within the time period, they will automatically delete themselves.
