Instagram Stories Repeating? Here's How to Fix It

On June 14th, 2022, Instagram users around the globe tried watching their friend’s favorite stories only to be met with an annoying bug. Your friend’s previous stories would play before displaying the new one. If your Instagram Stories are repeating, we’ve got a simple fix.

Why Are Instagram Stories Repeating?

According to Instagram, via DigitalTrends, the bug is affecting mainly iOS users, which could have to do something with a few new updates Meta is currently making. This causes all previous stories to play before playing the latest one.

So, in theory, if your friend had posted 12 stories over the last 12 days, you’d have to sit through the previous 11 to get to the one you actually wanted to view. It makes it pretty annoying if you’re used to scrolling through your connection’s stories first thing in the day, and totally messes up your flow. Believe me, I’d know.

Understandably, other users are pretty outraged by this.

How to Fix Instagram Stories Repeating

If your Instagram Stories are repeating, here’s how to fix it:

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Search “Instagram” in the bottom search bar.
  3. Click the Update button.

And voila! As of writing, this should prevent your Instagram Stories from repeating. Make sure you’re Instagram says version 239.1, and you should be good. If your phone doesn’t update Instagram, there’s a chance you already have the update installed. If this doesn’t work, try uninstalling and re-installing your Instagram app.

The bigger question, though, is maybe we’ve uncovered the ugly underbelly of IG and Meta. I thought Stories were supposed to expire after 24 hours.

It makes you wonder if Zuckerberg is keeping everyone’s memories in a vault in his house or something… Creepy.
