Resetting Your Firestick Remote

Before you reset your Firestick Remote, try re-pairing it. Press the Home button for 10 seconds to re-pair your Firestick remote. Resetting your Firestick remote will usually fix the problem if re-pairing doesn’t work.

These steps with all Firestick Remotes First Generation and newer. For a Basic Edition Firestick, see below for steps. 

  1. Unplug your Fire TV from the power supply and wait for 1 minute.
  2. Hold down the Left, Menu, and Back buttons at the same time for 12 seconds.
  3. Release the Left, Menu, and Back buttons and wait for five seconds.
  4. Take out the remote’s batteries.
  5. Plug your Fire TV back in and wait 1 minute.
  6. Insert the batteries back into your remote.
  7. Hit the Home button.

Fix a Basic Edition Firestick Remote Not Working

Fixing a Basic Edition Firestick is a little more tricky than the newer models but is still doable. Follow the steps below to reset your Basic Fire TV Remote.

  1. Hold down the Home button. 
  2. Hit the Menu button three times while keeping Home pressed down.

  1. Release the Home button. 
  2. Hit the Menu button nine more times. 
  3. Take out the remote’s batteries. 
  4. Unplug your Fire TV from the power supply and wait for 1 minute. 
  5. Put the batteries back into your remote. 
  6. Plug in your Fire TV back in. 
  7. Wait for the Home screen to appear, then press and hold Home for 40 seconds. 
  8. Wait 1 minute for the setup to complete. 

Fixing a Firestick Remote That’s Still Not Working

If the above steps did not help, here are a few tips you can use to troubleshoot your Firestick Remote. 

  • Stand closer to your Fire TV. 
  • Replace the remote’s batteries.
  • Try using the Amazon Firestick App on mobile.

If your remote is still not working, there’s a chance there could be broken hardware in the remote or Firestick itself and you may have to purchase a new one.
