Want to screenshot a DM but you’re not sure if Instagram will notify the other user? Here’s what you need to know.

Does Instagram Notify Users of DM Screenshots?

If someone sends you a photo or message in a DM that you want to screenshot, you might wonder if Instagram notifies them that you’ve taken a screenshot. We’re here to explain what happens when you take a screenshot on Instagram and, more specifically, if IG notifies other users.

Does Instagram Notify Users of DM Screenshots?

No, Instagram does not notify users of screenshots taken of direct messages. That means there is no way for the other person to tell if you’ve screenshotted a message from a DM.

If you don’t believe us, you can test it yourself. Here’s how:

First, you’ll need two Instagram accounts. Using the Instagram app on your phone, you can log into both accounts from the same phone. To do this, go to your profile page, and tap on your name at the top left. Click on the ‘Add account’ button, and then log in with your other account’s credentials. You can now swap between both accounts using this same method.

Next, add yourself as a friend or DM yourself if you have the option available. Send a DM, and then swap over to your other account. Take a screenshot of the DM, and then switch back to your original account. You will notice there are no visible notifications anywhere in the Instagram app notifying you that a screenshot was taken of your DM.

Will Instagram add a screenshot notification feature like Snapchat? We don’t know for sure, but Instagram has said nothing about it to date. If things change, we’ll let you know.
